The tournament needs diversity :
Every fan rooting for a team based in the CONCACAF or the CONMEBOL, including Brazilian fans, should wish that there are enough American teams left on the pitch to compete with the European powerhouses. The Brazilian national team has won the most number of titles, with a whopping 5 titles. Despite this record, Brazil’s dominance at the biggest sport stage has faded a bit, and no other American team, nor from other continents, has stepped up to pick up the slack. Even Argentina, Brazil’s archrival, has not won the tournament in 32 years.
FIFA has done a great deal to expand soccer’s reach. In recent times the tournament was played in Korea, South Africa, Brazil, and Now in Qatar. According to FIFA’s website, the next cup will be played in the USA-Canada-Mexico triplex. But the tournament as a whole has become increasingly dominated by European teams. All recent FIFA World Cup titles have been won by European countries, with France being the title holder.
The world cup needs more positive excitement to keep the tournament interesting:
Qatar has enough controversy already. The controversies are well documented in recent news headlines. Therefore, we need more excitement, not less. But we need different kinds of excitement to allow soccer and sport in general to play its role of bridging generational gaps and bringing people together.
Messi needs one one to prove that he is the prodigy child of the soccer world:
Messi is arguably one of the best soccer players in the world, if not the best. He is probably playing his last world cup, but has not won anything at the biggest stage. It would be good for him and for the soccer world that he retires on a positive note before he joins the pantheon of soccer’s greats like Pele and Maradona.
The rivalry between Argentina and Brazil is good for soccer and must stay alive.
Brazil and Argentina have had the biggest and longest rivalry in world soccer. The two teams align their top talents and play at the highest level of competitiveness when they meet. Fans around the world live for this rivalry. Their games are always subject to controversies, prognostics, pre and post-game analysis, discussions, gambling, and even violence between friends even between fellow compatriots in countries around the globe. This keeps the game exciting, fun and brings a lot of marketing dollars in the industry.
May Argentina continue its winning streak until that proverbial meeting with Brazil!
